GORDONS BAY:Alan Meiklejohn, NSRI Gordons Bay station commander, said: At 11h06, Sunday, 26th March, NSRI Gordons Bay duty crew were activated by the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) following reports of a drowning in progress at the Strand Pavilion, between the Strand Pavilion and Gordons Bay.Our NSRI rescue runner Boetie Woltemade was launched and NSRI rescue swimmers, Strand Surf Lifesaving Club (Strand SLC) lifeguards, WC Government Health EMS, Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services, GB Med Security ambulance services, Law Enforcement Marine Unit, the SA Police Services and ER24 ambulance services responded.On arrival on the scene an adult woman was observed about 500 meters off-shore standing on a shallow reef after appearing to have been swept out to sea by rip-currents and an NSRI rescue swimmer and a Strand SLC lifeguard swam out to her from the beach and they secured her before a Strand SLC lifeguard on a Malibu rescue board reached them and the woman was brought safely ashore and she required no further assistance.File image File image
