WITSAND:Theo Erasmus, NSRI Witsand station commander, said:At 11h05, Wednesday, 28th December, NSRI Witsand was informed of a 33 year old lady suffering from a serious allergic reaction. NSRI Medical crew responded to assist and Western Cape Government Health EMS was notified. Due to the seriousness of the local residents condition a doctor on holiday in Witsand was contacted. The doctor managed to stabilise the lady. On the arrival of EMS ambulance she was handed into their care in a serious but stable condition and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.Then at 13h50 NSRI Witsand was contacted by a 32 year old male out fishing at Takheining, a fishing reef 3 nautical miles offshore of Witsand reporting motor mechanical failure after they could not get their boat motor started.Our NSRI craft Breede Rescuer was launched to assist. The casualty vessel was towed to the Mudlark slipway in the Breede River where once recovered they required no further assistance.Then at 16h30 NSRI Witsand was informed of the boat 'Wet and Wild' that was capsized whilst trying to assist a kite surfer.Both our sea rescue craft Falcon Rescuer and Breede Rescuer were already on the Breede River assisting with a swimming competitionFalcon Rescuer was diverted to assist the casualty craft. One 44 year old male was found sitting on the capsized hull of his vessel and he was rescued onto our sea rescue craft.Breede Rescuer then went to assist Falcon Rescuer to upright the capsized vessel. The casualty vessel was towed to Oyster Beds by Breede Rescuer where once loaded onto the trailer the owner required no further assistance.At 10h16, Thursday, 29th December, NSRI Witsand duty crew assisted a boat with motor mechanical failure to come in through the river mouth and be put to safe moorings.A private boat had already assisted to transfer some of the crew of the casualty boat to safety and once all were ashore no further assistance was required.8.5m Breede Rescuer 8.5m Breede RescuerYZERFONTEIN:Andre Livingstone-Louw, NSRI Yzerfontein deputy station commander, said:At 12h04, Wednesday, 28th December, NSRI Yzerfontein duty crew responded to Long Beach to assist a seal pup but on arrival on the scene the Seal Pup bolted and swam off into the sea.Then at 13h50 our NSRI Yzerfontein duty crew launched the sea rescue craft Spirit of Iffley to assist 3 male teenagers capsized on a canoe off-shore of Yzerfontein.An upcountry bystander on holiday in Yzerfontein and using his jet-ski also went to assist them and on our arrival on the scene he took the 3 teenagers to shore with his jet-ski and we helped to recover their canoe which was returned to them on the beach.PLETTENBERG BAY:Marc Rodgers, NSRI Plettenberg Bay station commander, said:At 11h28, Wednesday, 28th December, NSRI Plettenberg Bay duty crew launched Airlink Rescuer following reports of a cabin boat capsized in the Keurbooms River Mouth.All crew onboard were found safe and the sea rescue craft assisted them back to their moorings in the Keurbooms River and they required no further assistance.KNYSNA:Jerome Simonis, NSRI Knysna station commander, said:2 pencil rubber ducks, suffering motor mechanical failure during the Trans Agulhas Race, both with 2 men onboard each casualty craft, were assisted at 09h38, Wednesday, 28th December.Our NSRI sea rescue craft towed them through the Knysna Heads to safe moorings at the Knysna Marina and they required no further assistance.PORT EDWARD:Alan Stilwell, NSRI Port Edward duty controller, said:At 16h30, NSRI Port Edward duty crew assisted by members of the public scanned the sea for a kite-surfer seen launching at T.O.Strand before encountering heavy seas and strong gusting winds.Later, thanks to the help of bystanders, the kite-surfer was seen coming ashore at Palm Beach and he required no further assistance.ST FRANCIS BAY:Sarah Smith, NSRI St Francis Bay station commander, said:At 20h11, Wednesday, 28th December, a boat beached on a sand bank was assisted safely and with all occupants safe they required no further assistance.Then at around 21h27, together with NSRI Plettenberg Bay, NSRI St Francis Bay investigated red distress flare sightings off-shore of Eerste River but after no further sightings were noted and with no persons reported to be overdue or missing a search was suspended and the activation of the distress flares remains a mystery. JEFFREYS BAY:Rieghard Janse van Rensburg, NSRI Jeffreys Bay station commander, said:Just before midday on Thursday, 29th December, we assisted a husband and his wife from Bryanston, Johannesburg, on a Jet-Ski suffering mechanical motor failure.Once safely ashore they required no further assistance.At Kabaljous Beach 5 people were assisted out of the water by Kouga Municipal lifeguards after being caught in rip currents and they were not injured and required no further assistance.SHELLY BEACH:Jeremiah Jackson, NSRI Shelly Beach station commander, said:At 11h01, Thursday, 29th December, we launched the Sea Rescue craft Spirit of Dawn and transferred 4 people off the casualty boat Mighty, suffering motor mechanical failure at the backline off-shore of Shelly Beach.2 Charter fishing boats, Strike Fishing Charters and Must Byt Fishing Charters, each took an additional 3 crew each off Mighty.All crew of Mighty were brought safely ashore and the casualty came in under her own power without incident.
