Andre Fraser, NSRI Mossel Bay station commander, said: At 16h51, Tuesday, 23rd August, NSRI Mossel Bay duty crew were activated following reports of the local 48 foot yacht Mbali taking on water at her moorings at the walk on moorings in Mossel Bay harbour. The sea rescue craft Rescue 15 was launched and the NSRI rescue vehicle and Mossel Bay Fire and Rescue Services responded with extra water extrication pumps to assist the owner, Schalk Bothma, at his yacht. On arrival on the scene the yacht was found to be 70% under water and water extrication pumps were set up and water was pumped out the yacht. Once sufficiently re-floated on inspection the owner found a leak on the Port side of the yacht and the leak was temporarily repaired and more water was able to be extricated until the yacht was re-floated.The Mossel Bay Transnet National Ports Authority assisted with an electrical water extrication pump and the owner is arranging for full repairs to be done. With the yacht re-floated no further assistance was required. Picture attached: NSRI Mossel Bay.TO REPORT A SEA RESCUE EMERGENCY DIAL 112 FROM A CELLPHONE
