At 10h35, Sunday, 07th August, NSRI Mykonos duty crew were activated to investigate reports of a whale beached at St Helena Bay.The sea rescue craft Gemini Rescuer II and a Sea Rescue vehicle responded to the scene.On arrival on the scene the carcass of a 3.5 meter (estimated length) Cuviers Beaked Whale was found on the beach and samples of the dead whale were collected on behalf of the Department of Environmental Affairs - Oceans and Coasts.The carcass was towed by the sea rescue craft to approximately 4 nautical miles off-shore and released and the carcass of the whale appears to have sunk.Beached whale carcassTO REPORT A SEA RESCUE EMERGENCY DIAL 112 FROM A CELLPHONE
