At midday, Saturday, 02nd July, NSRI Hermanus duty crew were activated following eye-witness reports of a surfer suspected to be in difficulty off-shore of the Marine Hotel, Hermanus.The Sea Rescue craft Hunters Gold Rescuer was launched and on arrival on the scene the surfer, 31 year old Riaan Greeff from Noordhoek, was found safely ashore and reporting that his surf board broke in half while he was surfing and he had paddled to shore holding onto his damaged surfboard. He required no assistance.
IMG-20160703-WA0001SHELLY BEACH:On Sunday afternoon at 14h30, 03 July, NSRI Shelly Beach were activated following reports from Shelly Beach Control tower of the ski-boat Lollipop with 4 persons on board capsized in the surf while returning to shore through the breaker line.2 Adult males aged 60 and 48 and 2 young males believed to be aged 8 and 11, from Johannesburg, were being assisted by fisherman and other boaters and by Shelly Beach control.On arrival on the scene NSRI found all 4 people safely ashore and not injured and, assisted by other boaters and bystanders, recovered their ski-boat Lollipop. No further assistance was required.
