At 17h10, Sunday, 10th July, NSRI Strandfontein duty crew were activated by the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) following reports of a drowning in progress at Monwabisi Beach.The Sea Rescue craft Discovery Rescue Runner was launched to respond to begin a search and the sea rescue craft I & J Rescuer was towed to Monwabisi to be launched on the scene and NSRI rescue swimmers, Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services and a CT Fire and Rescue Services dive unit, WC Government Health EMS, the SA Police Services, Law Enforcement, Metro Police, a Police Dive Unit and the EMS/AMS Skymed rescue helicopter responded.On arrival on the scene a search commenced for a 17 year old male, from Khayeliysha, who reportedly went missing in the surf while swimming with his brother at the main beach at Monwabisi.During a search the body of the male was spotted in the surf and recovered from the water by NSRI rescue swimmers and brought onto the beach where paramedics conducted CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) efforts but after all efforts to resuscitate the teenager were exhausted, the teenager was declared deceased and his body was taken into the care of the Forensic Pathology Services.Police have opened an inquest docket and the family were transported to a Police station by EMS ambulance where Police trauma counsellors are providing grief counselling.Emergency Services and NSRI have conveyed sincerest condolences to family and friends of the deceased.16 - Grand West CSI 2TO REPORT A SEA RESCUE EMERGENCY DIAL 112 FROM A CELLPHONE
