Hermanus 01Hermanus 02HERMANUS: At 13h12, Sunday, 01 May, NSRI Hermanus duty crew and WC Government Health EMS responded to a trail between Hermanus and Gansbaai, about 4 kilometers from Hermanus, following reports of a woman injured on the trail after falling from her mountain bike.Initial reports suggested it had been a quad bike accident but it was then determined that the woman, aged in her 40's, from Somerset West, had fallen off her mountain bicycle while riding with friends on the trail after reportedly hitting a tree log in the sand while going down a sand dune on the shoreline. On arrival on the scene NSRI and EMS paramedics treated the woman for a fractured collar bone and fractured ribs and the decision was made to request the AMS/EMS Skymed rescue helicopter to assist as despite being in a stable condition taking her out over the rough terrain trail would have been uncomfortable and may have caused further injury due to the nature of her injuries. The Skymed helicopter has transported the patient in a stable condition to hospital for further medical treatment.
