This year Nicholas Mortley,17, took on his third Freedom Day Robben Island swim to raise funds for Sea Rescue's WaterWise Academy. This year the event took place on the 2nd of April - a 7,5km swim from Robben Island to Big Bay, Blouberg.Being a passionate swimmer, WaterWise's aim of making children aware of the dangers around water and teaching them how to be safe in and near water, as well as how to rescue their peers, really appealed to Nicholas. The youngster asked family, friends and supporters for donation of R100 which will be used to train children in basic water safety, and so far has raised almost R20 000 towards the project ! On the ferry out to the Island. On the ferry out to the Island.... and they are off! ... and they are off!Nicholas finishes at Big Bay. Nicholas finishes at Big Bay.
