On Thursday evening, 10th December, NSRI Mykonos duty crew were activated following a request for assistance from the yacht Prime Time, with a man and a woman onboard, reporting to have fishing nets fouled around their motor propeller while heading towards Kraal Bay and unable to make headway.NSRI Mykonos dispatched the sea rescue craft Gemini Rescuer II and on arrival on the scene NSRI rescue swimmers free dived and cut the rope and netting free and the couple were able to continue without further assistance required.On Friday, 11th December, at 19h30, NSRI East London, EC Government Health EMS, East London Fire and Rescue Services and the SA Police Services and a Police K-9 search and rescue unit responded to Eastern Beach following reports of a drowning in progress.On arrival on the scene it was found that an off-duty lifeguard had managed to rescue a 35 year old local man who was being swept out to sea in rip currents.Paramedics commenced CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) efforts but after all efforts to resuscitate the man were exhausted he was declared deceased.Police have opened an inquest docket and the body of the deceased man was taken into the care of the Department of Health Forensic Pathology Services.
