Monday, 16th November. Man assisted after Hobie-Cat capsizes:
Lyall Pringle, NSRI Hout Bay station commander, said:
At 16h32, Monday, 16th November, NSRI Hout Bay duty crew were activated by the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) following reports of a Hobie- Cat sailing craft capsized off Hout Bay Beach.
It appeared that the solo sailor was attempting to right the craft but eye-witnesses raised the alarm as a precaution.
We launched our sea rescue craft Albie Matthews while two NSRI rescue swimmers responded directly to the beach and swam out to the casualty about 200 meters off the Main Beach in hout bay.
On arrival at the casualty the local man confirmed that his Hobie-Cat had completely capsized and despite his attempts to right the craft he was not able to and he was grateful for the assistance.
We assisted to right his craft and we towed him to the beach where once safely beached no further assistance was required.
