At 17h20, Wednesday, 07th October, NSRI Port Elizabeth were activated by the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) following a call from a member of public reporting friends of his on 5.5 meter Rigid Inflatable Boat requesting him to raise the alarm after they hit an unidentified object at sea while underway. They had lost the functioning of their boats gear box and were adrift and unable to make headway. Although not in any imminent danger they requested assistance 5 nautical miles East of the Sundays River, 2 nautical miles off-shore.We launched our sea rescue craft EIKOS RESCUER IV and on arrival on the scene, 20 nautical miles North of our base, we found all 4 men safe (all from Port Elizabeth, aged in their 30’s). They were unable to get their craft's motor into gear to get underway.A tow line was rigged and we towed them to the Coega harbour where they recovered their craft and they required no further assistance.
