On Wednesday evening Netcare 911 arranged a first aid scenario with Station 19, Richards Bay. We were activated to a paddle group 'who had capsized in the harbour with two casualties being in the water and later discovering one had fallen into the Dolosse' whilst trying to exit the water. The Spirit of Richards Bay and the Spirit of Round Table were launched to assist the casualties in the water and our Rescue Mobile was despatched to the pier with a Netcare ambulance to assist the patient who had fallen in between the dollosse. The Richard Bay Scouts arranged a visit of the station at the same time as the exercise. They were told how Sea Rescue works, followed by Coxswain Jacques Kruger comparing the knots that we make use of to what they learn in Scouts. They then broke into groups so that they could see the operational area, kit and rescue craft after which they joined our meeting and watched us preparing to launch for our planned evening exercise with Netcare 911. They were encouraged to return for a more thorough visit in the near future. It was a worthwhile and very relevant evening ... and exercise. We thank Netcare for their valuable input and guidance in assisting us with keeping our first aid current.
