WILDERNESS:At 08h15 on Saturday the 14th March, NSRI Wilderness duty crew were activated following reports of a paddler in difficulty off-shore of Wilderness Main Beach.3 paddlers had launched on a paddle when one Sea Kayak had filled with water from a suspected leak and had reportedly sunk. The fishing trawler DIYANDA, in the area at the time, was signalled by the two fellow paddlers and came to their aid finding 28 year old Ryno Gerber, from George, in the water. They took him safely aboard the fishing trawler and raised the alarm.NSRI Wilderness launched the sea rescue craft CLEMENGOLD RESCUER and on arrival on-scene recovered the semi submerged Sea Kayak and transferred the casualty onto the sea rescue craft and brought him safely ashore where he required no further assistance.The man’s two fellow paddlers paddled to shore.
SHELLY BEACH:At 08h29 on Saturday the 14th March, NSRI Shelly Beach duty crew launched SPIRIT OF DAWN following a request for assistance from the charter diving boat C-FREAKS reporting three passengers to be suffering severe motion sickness at Protea Banks.On arrival on the scene, at Pinnacle Point, Protea Banks, 4.5 nautical miles from our sea rescue station, three women, one from Kimberley, one from Brits and a local from San Lameer were transferred onto the sea rescue craft, along with the husband of the lady from Brits, and were brought safely ashore. They were assisted with rehydration and some medical treatment for their acute motion sickness and released requiring no further assistance.
