Eoudia Erasmus who teaches WaterWise in the Ceres area, visited our Eastern Cape based instructor, Debbie Smith, to do some intensive WaterWise teaching in the Coffee Bay area after the Eastern Cape police reported that many people, including children, drowned there over the festive season. Coffee Bay is 197 km’s from Port St John’s (3 hour drive one way) and a 4.5 hour drive from East London. The schools and houses are very close to the sea and drowning incidents, involving children, are well known by the learners.Debbie and Eoudia visited 3 schools, Pato JSS, Coffee Bay Primary and Tokazini JSS, and 1180 kids were taught about water safety in total. They equipped the learners with survival and peer rescue skills, taught them who to call for help in an emergency and how to do Hands On CPR. The age of learners taught ranged from 4 – 20.Eoudia, Roy and Debbie at Eoudia, Roy and Debbie atThey were superbly hosted by Roy Sparg from White Clay, who looked after us tremendously by way of accommodation and superb meals and our heartfelt thanks goes to Roy and his staff for making us so welcome.DSC_0569 Children from Coffee Bay Primary School learn the WaterWise PLAN.e94c7ee833fefec90e4c7abef11ecaeeDSC_0592
