Station 22, Vaal Dam, assisted the annual Round The Island yacht race:

Station 22, Vaal Dam, assisted the annual Round The Island yacht race on Sunday with a total of 284 boats on the start line.The duty crew were on stand by on the water during the race and had two call outs for boats sinking. One was a ski boat with a family on board which was towed safely back to shore.The other was a small 16 foot sailing dingy with 5 young girls aged 7 and up which was taking water. They were accompanied by their parents. The Vaal Dam volunteers onboard Harvey’s Fibreglass helped by towing them back to shore.Station 22 duty crew also assisted with several dingy capsizes and one yacht tow in due to heavy winds .
