At 17h36 on Wednesday the 7th of January, NSRI Jeffreys Bay duty crew were alerted by Fire and Rescue Services and activated to assist Police at a farm dam near Humansdorp where an 18 year old local male had gone missing under water while swimming with friends.NSRI Jeffreys Bay launched a Stand Up Paddle Board and NSRI rescue swimmers formed a sweeping line search, free diving and wading in shallow water, and we were joined by Police divers using Scuba dive gear.EC Government Health EMS assisted on-scene.The body of the teenager was located by Police divers during a scuba dive search and recovered, assisted by NSRI rescue swimmers, and taken into the care of the Forensic Pathology Services.Police trauma counsellors assisted the teenagers friends and a guardian of the teenager.
