At 19h17 on Sunday the 2nd of November, NSRI Strandfontein volunteer sea rescue duty crew were activated following an eye-witness report of a red distress flare sighted out to sea in a line between Muizenberg Surfers Corner and Hangklip.NSRI Strandfontein volunteer sea rescue duty crew prepared our sea rescue craft and an NSRI Simonstown rescuer was dispatched to the eye-witness to get a first hand account from where the red distress flare had been sighted.After no further flares were sighted and with no one reported overdue or missing and after launch slip ways were investigated and found to show no signs of any abandoned vehicles or signs of boaters or paddlers overdue or missing NSRI Strandfontein were stood down but requested to remain on a precautionary alert status pending any new information or any further red distress flare sightings.The precautionary alert will remain in place until Monday morning before the all clear is given.
