At 13h48, Sunday, 07 September, NSRI Gordons Bay volunteer sea rescue duty crew were activated following reports of 2 people being swept out to sea at Strand Beach, Strand.NSRI Gordons Bay volunteer sea rescue duty crew launched our sea rescue craft SPIRIT OF SURFSKI and JACK RILEY and the sea rescue vehicle, WC Government Health EMS, the Red Cross AMS Skymed rescue helicopter, the SA Police Services and ER24 ambulance service responded.On arrival on-scene it was found that a 14 year old male and a 21 year old male, both from Strand, had been rescued from the water by bystanders, reportedly using surfboards and boogie boards to go to the aid of the two being swept out to sea by rip currents and bringing the two safely ashore.“Both patients were checked by paramedics and although both appeared fine they were transported to hospital in stable conditions by ER24 ambulance as a precautionary measure for observation for secondary drowning and for treatment for mild hypothermia.Spirit of Surfski Spirit of Surfski
