At 08h45 on Saturday the 05th of July, NSRI Durban volunteer sea rescue duty crew were activated following a request for assistance from the Durban Ski-boat Club reporting that the ski-boat NIPPER had requested them to alert the authorities after they had happened upon a body of a man floating off Durban North.Our NSRI Durban volunteer sea rescue duty crew launched our sea rescue craft EIKOS RESCUER II accompanied by Police Search and Rescue officers and responded.The ski-boat NIPPER remained on the scene to point out the discovery to the arriving sea rescue craft.On arrival on-scene approximately 2 nautical miles off Durban North the body of the unidentified male, estimated to be aged in his 20’s, was recovered by Police Search and Rescue onto our sea rescue craft and brought to our Durban sea rescue base where it was handed into the care of the Forensic Pathology Services by the Police.Police have opened an inquest docket.05 - Durban Base
