UK lady injured in a fall from a horse

At 16h24, Friday, 18 July, NSRI Port Elizabeth volunteer sea rescue duty crew were activated following reports of a lady fallen off a horse and injured on the beach near to Sardinia Bay, Port Elizabeth.It appears that Georgina Hoare, 23, from the United Kingdom, who has been in Port Elizabeth for two days on holiday, had fallen off a horse during an outride with a riding group while going down an embankment. Friends of the NSRI, who were walking along the beach, had happened upon the scene, 2km along the beach from Sardinia Bay’s main beach, and they raised the alarm alerting NSRI.Georgina Hoare is from London and she is in South Africa for two months attending a game ranger course.Our NSRI Port Elizabeth volunteer sea rescue duty crew responded in our sea rescue vehicle towing our sea rescue quad bike to the scene and Gardmed ambulance services were activated.Our NSRI medics secured the patient and initiated medical care on their arrival.On their arrival Gardmed paramedics, who could not reach the scene in their ambulance, were transported along the beach to the scene aboard our 4x4 sea rescue vehicle and on our sea rescue quad bike and the patient, suffering spinal lumbar pain but otherwise in a satisfactory condition, was stabilised by paramedics and as a precautionary measure secured to a stokes basket stretcher with full spinal immobilisation and then transported along the beach in our sea rescue vehicle to where the ambulance was standing by.The patient, in good spirits, has been transported to hospital by Gardmed ambulance in a stable condition.The horse was not injured and the owner has taken the horse home.
