At 08h00, Thursday, 24th July, NSRI Port Elizabeth duty crew were activated by the Transnet National Ports Authority following a request for medical assistance from the fishing vessel SOUTHERN STAR reporting a 43 year old crewman onboard suffering head pain (headaches) and requiring to come ashore to be seen to by a doctor.
The duty crew launched EIKOS RESCUER IV and rendezvoused with the vessel approximately 3 nautical miles off Port Elizabeth.
On arrival on-scene the patient was found to be in a stable condition but suffering head pain and was transferred onto our sea rescue craft and brought into Port where a family member of the patient was on hand to transport the patient to his doctor for treatment and no further assistance was required.
The operation was completed at 09h30.
