This school is situated next to the wet land in the suburb of Dube, Soweto . The school has about 950 children … and when there is a storm they have to leave the school because the class rooms flood. The school Principal and the Head Of Department were very happy to have a WaterWise lesson … so much so that they want the water safety lesson to be done for the teachers as well.
After two years of asking for a bridge to be build over a stream, the community of Dube and Mofolo took matters into their own hands and built it themselves. Every day children need to cross the stream by jumping over rocks to get to school and after 2 incidents that took place on the same stream the community had waited long enough. Soweto WaterWise Instructor Kenneth Gagela talks to local children about the dangers of crossing streams and especially when they flood.
