WaterWise Instructor Debbie Smith reports:The highlight for the month of April here in Port St John’s, was sitting at the reception area of our local Port St John’s Junior Secondary School, waiting for the head master to show me to the classes for the morning.Whilst waiting, there were a group of girls, probably 10 in total, who all started singing the 10177 emergency number, complete with hand demonstration, causing me to smile broadly as they had recognized me back at their school and were showing me that they had remembered the number off by heart.I jumped up and started a little dance with them, mouthing the number again, to which more girls joined in, all having been present at a previous class. After a few visits to this school, I finally got to finish all grades at the school last week. As I was leaving the small children pleaded with me not to go and to please stay. Others passing by smiled and shouted out the 10177 number. What a lovely way to end off at this school. A huge thank you to Rian Erasmus – headmaster of Port St Johns Junior Secondary School for his commitment to water safety education for all of his children.image002
