Winter is coming and a lot of people think that drowning doesn't feature around this time of year. However, it is in some cases more dangerous than ever. Water is colder, parents can be more complacent and some pools become even more of a hazard. I for one got a wake up call the other day with my 18 month old daughter. We have a solid canvas cover that we put on our pool during winter and it is great. That night we had a downpour, and the next morning, there was a 10cm layer of water on our pool cover.Without even thinking, I went through my normal morning ritual of waking up when my daughter wakes up, we both go outside together to feed the dogs and she normally runs around while I sort out the dogs. I came back inside to fill up the dogs bowls and when I walked back outside, which had taken me all of 60 seconds, my daughter was standing on the middle of the pool cover with a huge grin and water up to her waist... This could have gone horribly wrong if I hadn't have seen her so quickly. The cover is not a stable place to walk so she can fall over so easily and drown. As much as I like the pool cover, it is also a huge hazard that all parents need to be aware of all the time.Marcus explains to Taylor, who is wanting to fetch her ball on the pool cover, why that is a bad idea.
