The Reach for a Dream Foundation helps children suffering from life-threatening illnesses to realise their dreams. One of their projects is called Captain Courage ... an exclusive ‘boys only’ project filled with adventurous activities to reward these children for their bravery.Being diagnosed with a life-threatening illness is a very challenging experience for a young boy. By taking part in courageous activities, our boys are given the chance to show their fighting spirit.Last weekend the Waterwise Academy, an educational component of the National Sea Rescue Institute, offered to give the boys hands-on practical experience of how to act in an emergency. The Vision of the Waterwise Academy is to proactively prevent drowning tragedies. The boys will be taken out in the harbour on a Sea Rescue boat and have the opportunity to witness a rescue exercise. PE crewman and WaterWise Instructor, Marcus Oshry, acknowledging their bravery in fighting their illnesses, and in that way helped to restore their self-worth and dignity. The WaterWise Academy is proudly sponsored by TNPA.NSRI015Reach for a Dream and NSRI join forces to educate kids with life-threatening illnesses how to stay safe on the beaches.Picture by Judy de Vega / The Herald.
