At 17h00 on Tuesday the 7th of January, NSRI Jeffreys Bay received a call from Relay EMS that they had been informed of a drowning in progress in the Seekoei River Lagoon between Aston Bay and Paradise Beach, Jeffreys Bay.NSRI Jeffreys Bay activated and Relay EMS responded. On arrival on scene, we found an 18 year old girl from Humansdorp conscious but suffering breathing difficultly and already out of the water and on the side of the lagoon. She and 2 other teenage girls were rescued from the water by a husband and wife and their daughter, locals form the Aston Bay, Paradise Beach area. They are commended for their efforts in saving the three but have respectfully requested not to be named. The 3 patients were treated on the scene for near drowning symptoms by Relay EMS. Two girls were released requiring no further medical assistance and the remaining 18 year old was transported to hospital by Relay EMS for observation for secondary drowning as it was established that she had been underwater for approximately 2-3 minutes. It appears that the teenagers were celebrating their matric results when, while swimming, they got into difficulty in the water before being rescued by a local family.Jeffreys Bay NSRI Loved 1s 24
