At 11h33 on Saturday the 11th of January, NSRI Port Edward volunteer sea rescue duty crew were activated to assist lifeguards at Main Beach who had responded to rescue a 47 year old man from the water who was being swept out to sea by rip-currents.NSRI Port Edward sea rescue volunteers, who were on duty at the time at the Port Edward Sea Rescue Station, arrived at the scene to find lifeguards had rescued the man from the surf and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) efforts had commenced.Netcare 911 paramedics and Medivac paramedics continued with advanced life support CPR on their arrival but after all CPR efforts were exhausted on the scene the man, from Port Shepstone, was declared deceased.Hi body has been handed into the care of Police and the Forensic Pathology Services and Police have opened an inquest docket.His family are being supported by Police.Port Edward
