At 15h27, Monday the 30th of December, NSRI Hermanus volunteer sea rescue duty crew were activated following eye-witness reports of a man swept off rocks into the sea. He was being swept out to sea by rip currents between the Windsor Hotel and the Old Harbour in Hermanus.NSRI Hermanus volunteer sea rescue duty crew launched the sea rescue craft HUNTER'S GOLD RESCUER and NSRI rescue swimmers, WC Government Health EMS, EMR private ambulance service and the SA Police Services responded.On arrival on-scene a man was located in the surf and recovered onto the sea rescue craft where NSRI medics initiated Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) efforts. He was takent to the New Harbour where paramedics continued with CPR.CPR efforts continued in the ambulance en-route to hospital. After extensive CPR efforts by doctors at the hospital were exhausted, the 24 year old Chinese man was declared deceased.His family are being assisted by Police and the Department of International Relations and Cooperation. The Consulate General of the People's Republic of China have been informed and are lending diplomatic assistance.Police have opened an inquest docket.
