At 09h43 (Sunday, 08th December) NSRI Strandfontein volunteer sea rescue duty crew, while on routine duty at the Strandfontein Sea Rescue base, went to assist at the Strandfontein tidal pool where off-duty lifeguards, who had arrived at Strandfontein early for their day shift, had recovered a female from the tidal pool and had initiated Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) efforts.Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services, WC Government Health EMS, the SA Police Services and Law Enforcement had also responded.Following extensive advanced life support CPR efforts the female, a 23 year old from Kraaifontein, was declared deceased.Police have opened an inquest docket.It appears that WP Strandfontein Surf Lifesaving lifeguards had arrived early at Strandfontein beach for their day duty. While setting up they had noticed a female in difficulties in the water in the tidal pool and they had immediately gone to her assistance removing her from the water. They had initiated CPR while activating an emergency medical response.image
