With a background in surf lifesaving Charles McHelm was a natural choice to join the WaterWise Academy, which he joined in 2006, when he became one of the first full time educators. In 2008 Charles gave the NSRI water safety talk at Habibia Primary. One of the pupils that he taught was Miekaaiel Saban who so loved swimming that he joint the Hanover Park Fresh water swimming club, where Charles was a coach.Today Miekaaiel is a Western province Life Saver with a few medals to his name. Charles believes that his early introduction to water safety and swimming lessons, which he started at at the age of 7, may have had something to do with Miekaaiel's success. Last week Charles was back at Habibia Primary school teaching the children about water safety.WaterWise is proudly sponsored by TNPA.Habibia children are taken through bystander CPR.
