At 18h42 (Sunday, 24th November) NSRI Strandfontein crew were activated by the Transnet National Ports Authority following reports of a drowning incident at Monwabisi on the False Bay coast.
NSRI Strandfontein volunteer sea rescue duty crew launched a sea rescue craft and a sea rescue vehicle responded and the SA Police Services, the Skymed rescue helicopter responded and WC Government Health EMS responded.
A WC Government Health EMS ambulance arrived on the scene to find Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services and Law Enforcement in attendance and a family reporting that their 14 year old son, from Blackheath, was missing after getting into difficulty in the surf while swimming.
On arrival on-scene Skymed and sea rescue craft conducted an extensive search but by last light, despite an extensive search, no sign of the teenager has been found.
Police have opened an investigation and a Police Dive Unit have been dispatched to take over an ongoing search operation.
Police are assisting the family of the missing teenager.
