The winch on the tractor is one of the most used pieces of equipment on our rescue base. It is not only used to pull up our own boats but also to assist other ski-boaters who may experience difficulties on the launch ramp at the Sonny Evans Small Boat Harbour. As a result the cable tends to get damaged and weakened over time, posing a threat to the safety of all those working with it.Mr Roland Murray of NuQuip, based in Durban, donated a new 25m x 10mm steel cable for the winch on the tractor.“This piece of equipment sees a lot of action every weekend. Safety is our prime concern because if something goes wrong with the cable it poses a threat not only to us, but also to the public in the immediate vicinity”, said Coxswain Shaun Harris when the new cable was fitted to the winch.“Without the contributions from enterprises like NuQuip, our mission to save lives on South African waters would be difficult to achieve”, said Pieter Coetzee, Deputy Station Commander.“We are very sincerely appreciative of this sort of support”, he added.Submitted by John Rolt, Station 20SAM_0319 Duty Coxswain, Shaun Harris, and Adriaan Duvenage, one of the trainees on the base, fitting the new cable.Shelly Beach tractor in action Shelly Beach tractor in action
