At 16h55 NSRI Gordons Bay were activated by TNPA following eyewitness reports of a jet-skier being swept out to sea off Die Poort, Strand.A 14 year old male from Wetton on a jet-ski that appeared to suffer motor failure, was being swept out to sea. An unidentified man attempted to swim after them but in the rough sea and strong winds, abandoned his attempt. A lady in a beachfront apartment witnessed the events and alerted NSRI.We launched our rescue craft Spirit of Surfski and 1 nautical mile offshore found that a local fishing boat had successfully rescued the teenage and taken him onboard. It was decided that the fishing boat would bring the teenager to shore where his anxious family awaited his safe return, while NSRI secured the jet ski and brought it to shore.NSRI coxswain, Alan Meiklejohn, reports that the teen was unhurt and the father expressed his gratitude to all who assisted in his safe return. We commend the fishing boat and the lady in the apartment for their swift action.File image File image
