The Rotary Club of Knights Pendragon in Bedfordview, Gauteng, in conjunction with the Rotary Clubs of Newlands and Table Bay in Cape Town have just concluded their fourth annual NSRI Wine Auction.Bill Brunjes, Director: Fund Raising of the Rotary Club of Knights Pendragon reports:The event was a tremendous success and raised some R140,000 which will be used to assist the NSRI to construct a Rescue Station at Yserfontein on the Cape West Coast. What makes our event unusual is the ability of the Cape Rotary Clubs to scour the Cape Winelands in search of generous donations that are not usually available in bottle stores or retailers around the Johannesburg area. This provides us with an opportunity to appeal to wine lovers in search of the unusual, which we managed to do. On the evening, held at the Protea Hotel Balalaika in Sandton, some 50 enthusiastic bidders under the hammer of Master Auctioneer Gift Ngwenya enthusiastically added wines of distinction to their cellars or secured tipple to enhance future celebrations. The evening was capped with a lovely 5-star gourmet meal, enjoyed by all present. This is the fourth year that Gift from Auction Exchange has donated his extensive experience to our cause. With his skill and sense of humour he has managed to make our event a very entertaining one indeed. In addition several other entities generously donated goods and services for raffling on the evening, adding great excitement, especially to those who were not bidding on the wine. Many guests enquired about our next event, so the prospects are good for another successful Wine Auction next year. Here are some pictures from the evening:
