Shaun Harris, duty coxswain at Station 20 Shelly Beach, reports that at 14h33 this afternoon, he received a call from a member of the public in Ramsgate. She had noticed what appeared to be a body floating on the back line.SAPS and an NSRI volunteer responded to the scene and observed the object 20m offshore. The object later washed up onshore and was found to be a carcass of a 5-6m baby whale. The Natal Sharks Board were alerted and they will make arrangements to remove the carcass.Just to add to the 'dangers' of the job, the lady's dog bit our crewman through his shoe as he entered the property. Fortunately he had closed shoes on and little damage was done.
