WaterWise Instructor Zanele Bushwane, teaches children about water safety in Gugulethu, Langa, Khayelitsha and Philippi near Cape Town.
One of the schools that she taught at recently was Lhlohonlo Primary School in Gugulethu.
Says Zanele: “The kids were so excited to practice CPR as it was their first time doing CPR. They were asking lots of questions and were very interested. I could see that they enjoyed every minute of it. The WaterWise lessons also helped the teachers, who felt that they were now better equipped when they go to swimming pools and outings to the sea.”
“The little ones at Xolani Primary School in Gugulethu were also very happy to see me. The foundation classes were outside, sitting in the sun, while I taught them about water safety. One of the things that I taught them was the “red word”-P LAN, which helps them remember what to do, and what not to do, in swimming pools, dams, rivers or the sea.
