Jet-skiers abandon their craft after capsizing:

At 12h59 on Saturday the 3rd of August NSRI Gordons Bay duty crew were called out following reports of 2 jet-ski's being washed up against rocks at Koegel Bay, between Gordons Bay and Kleinmond.Francois Stevens, NSRI Gordons Bay duty coxswain, said: 'Our Gordons Bay volunteers launched JACK RILEY and SPIRIT OF SURFSKI and our rescue vehicle and Gordons Bay Security ambulance responded while the WC Government Health EMS and the Red Cross AMS Skymed rescue helicopter were placed on alert.''Law Enforcement Officers also responded.''On arrival on-scene we found a father, his son and the son's friend were safely ashore but the two jet-ski's were wrecked against rocks in the surf and abandoned. (All from Somerset West, the father is in his early 40's and the son and his friend in their 20's)'It appears that the son and his friend were capsized by a wave while jet-skiing on the one jet-ski and the father launched his jet-ski to try to help but was also overcome in the surf and they abandoned the jet-ski's to get safely ashore.'Sea conditions are too rough to recover the jet-ski's today and NSRI Gordons Bay will return to the scene tomorrow to help them to try to recover their jet-ski's.'The son's friend was treated by paramedics for near drowning symptoms but he did not go to hospital and was released on the scene with the paramedics advice to watch out for secondary drowning as it appears he had been submerged under water for a short while during the ordeal.'
