On Monday the 8th of July NSRI Port Elizabeth was placed on standby for a man on the vessel K Confidence who had been seriously injured.K Confidence is a Large bulk Carrier with a 18m draft and 10 m free board and being so slow and large she was only able to reach the waters of Algoa Bay at 09h30 on Tuesday the 9th of July ... and had to keep a minimum of 5 miles off shore. On arrival at the vessel Ekios Rescuer was dwarfed by the size of the ship. Two NSRI crew were sent on board to assess the injured man and complete the transfer paperwork. The removal of the crewman was hampered by 3 meter swells, but the injured man and a colleague were safely transferred to the rescue boat. The two men were handed over to medical staff and treated at a hospital in Port Elizabeth.Pictures are available for media download on Sea Rescue's Flickr page.A NSRI volunteer climbs aboard the K Confidence.
