Picture Deon Truter.At 16h50 on Sunday the 9th of June Plettenberg Bay duty crew were activated following reports of a hiker injured from a reported fall at the Robberg Nature Reserve while hiking with friends.Deon Truter, NSRI Plettenberg Bay station commander, said: 'Our Plettenberg Bay volunteers responded by road as sea conditions were extremely rough and it was not safe to approach Robberg Island from the sea side.'Our team hiked to the location of the patient where we found 20 year old Neda Chavoshi, from California, United States of America, (a student at the University of Cape Town for the past 6 months), suffering a suspected fractured right ankle sustained after she had jumped off a rock and landed awkwardly on rocks on the beach that were concealed by sea foam.'The patient was reassured and the ankle splinted and she was secured to a trauma board and we hiked her to our sea rescue vehicle. She was transported to the Medi-Clinic in Plettenberg Bay where our NSRI doctor, Dr. John Donald, treated her further.'The hike from the island to the car park took approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes and NSRI stretcher bearers rotated carrying shifts.'The patient remained in good spirits throughout the incident.'X-Rays confirmed a fracture and the ankle has been set and placed in a cast.'The UCT student is due to return home to California in a weeks time.'PICTURES FOR MEDIA USE ARE AVAILABLE ON SEA RESCUE'S FLICKR PAGE.
