Crew members from Station 20, Shelly Beach, and Station 32, Port Edward, completed a comprehensive fire fighting course last weekend. The theory module and qualifying examination was presented by Cal King from National Fire Investigating Services, who is also a trainee at Station 20. The practical module was presented on Saturday by fire fighters from the Hibiscus Coast Fire and Rescue Services.Station 20 training officer, Jan Coetzee, who supervised the course, said it had been necessary to divide the course into a theory module followed by a practical module because it was difficult to get all those who needed the training in one place at the same time for an extended period.“By dividing it into two modules, we ensured that our crew got the very best out of the training”, he said.“Fire fighting is not a skill that we take lightly. Both station commanders have given it a high priority”, he added.Cal King from National Fire Investigation Services explaining fire fighting theory.
