PORT EDWARDAlan Stilwell, NSRI Port Edward duty controller, said:'On the afternoon of Friday, 03 May, NSRI Port Edward volunteer sea rescue duty crew were activated to assist Police Search and rescue with a body recovery operation.'The body of an unidentified man had been found floating off-shore of Port edward and together Police search and Rescue assisted by NSRI Port Edward recovered the body which has been handed into the care of the Forensic Pathology Services.'Police are investigating.'
DURBAN:Jacqui McAllister, NSRI Durban duty controller, said:'On Saturday morning, 04 May, NSRI Durban volunteer sea rescue duty crew launched our sea rescue craft and assisted Police Search and Rescue to recover the body of a man off-shore of New Pier, Durban.'It is believed that a man had drowned in the vicinity and during a search a body had been located and NSRI Durban assisted Police to recover the body from the surf.'Police have opened an inquest docket.'Later on Saturday, 04 May, NSRI Durban volunteer sea rescue duty crew responded aboard NSRI Durban sea rescue craft to rendezvous with the yacht MAJIMOTO, taking part in the Colorpress Vasco Da Gama Ocean race, from Maputo to Durban, with 6 crew onboard, and the yacht was suffering mechanical motor failure off-shore of Umhlanga.'On arrival on-scene off-shore of Umhlanga a tow-line was rigged from the sea rescue craft and the yacht was towed into the Port of Durban and once safely berthed no further assistance was required.'
