Picture Warren Pearson.On Tuesday, 5th February, the Sea Rescue Helicopter Unit (SRHU) with 22 Squadron from AFB Ysterplaat and SA Navy divers held a training exercise in Simons Town.The first part of the exercise saw teams training in long-line patient transfers from the 'deck of a vessel', substituted by the Naval yard rugby fields, to the Oryx aircraft, as well as helicopter hand signals and communications.The second part of the exercise saw teams free-fall deploying from the aircraft into the water, to be recovered later by the SRHU rescue swimmer suspended on the aircraft hoist.Pictures by Keenan Gambarana :
