INNOVATIVE WAY TO GENERATE FUNDSStation 20, Shelly Beach, has come up with an innovative way to generate funds. Thanks to the generous donation and erection of an aluminium advertising board, the station is hoping to sell advertising space on the board to local businesses. The plan is the brainchild of Shaun Harris, one of the NSRI’s coxswains, but it would not have materialised without help from Mr Jan Barnard of the H2O Bed and Breakfast in Uvongo on the KZN South Coast. Jan donated and erected the advertising board on the outside wall of the station next to the NSRI signage. The board has 15 places that can be sold to businesses operating from the Sonny Evans Small Boat harbour. The NSRI station shares the harbour with other organisations like fishing charters, dive charters, commercial fishing organisations and recreational boaters.Station Commander Mark Harlen said that the intention was to offer the advertising spaces firstly to those using the harbour and secondly to any other local businesses wishing to use the facility. “There is a steady flow of people past the wall where the board has been erected. This flow increases dramatically during the holiday seasons and during the big fishing competitions we have here. It will be good value for money”, he said. “Mr Barnard’s gesture is much appreciated. Without his help, this idea would have been still-born”.For information about pricing, contact Mark Harlen at 082-990-5950Station 20 crew members, Antoinette le Roux and John Rolt, with the advertising board shortly after it was erected by Mr Jan Barnard at the weekend.
