Saturday 8 December 2012:The new 6,5 metre rescue boat, Rotarian Schipper, was blessed at a ceremony held at the Bakoven sea rescue base this afternoon. Despite the strong South Easter the ceremony went according to plan and included a rescue demonstration. Station Commander Bruce Davidson commentated while the duty crew launched Rotarian Schipper to 'rescue' two people on a stand up board who were 'caught' by the wind.Pictures are available for download from Sea Rescue's Flickr page. Bruce Davidson and Bevan Geyser receive the 32 inch TV that will be used for training from Rotary Waterfront's Jenny Harpur Don Nicholls receives an award for serving Sea Rescue as Deputy Station commander for 45 years. Mark Thompson recives an award for his serving Station 2 as Station Commander for 9 years. Rotarian Schipper is launched for the demonstration. On the way to the 'casualties.' Returning to base with 'survivors.' The end of the demo! Five of the seven station commanders who have served at Bakoven were at the ceremony Mitch Brown, Allan Cramb, Brad Geyser, Mark Thompson and Bruce Davidson. Missing are Ivan Klerk and John Forsyth.
