NSRI were advised, today, by Witsand Municipal authorities that the female involved in the accident at the tidal pool at Witsand yesterday succumbed to her injuries and died in hospital in George today - despite extensive efforts by doctors to save her.
Condolences have been extended to the family.
Original Report:At approximately 17h10 on Saturday, 17th November, Witsand volunteers were activated following reports of a woman who was injured after reportedly diving into the Witsand tidal pool just East of Witsand.Attie Gunter, NSRI station commander said that Witsand duty crew responded to the scene where we found a woman, from Helderberg, critically injured from reportedly diving into the tidal pool and striking her head on rocks.A nurse was in attendance assisting to treat her and it appears that she is a member of the local neighborhood watch and had been swimming with colleagues when the incident happened.A neighborhood watch member had rescued her from the water.A METRO ambulance arrived on-scene and during attempts to stabilize her Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) commenced.The EMS Skymed helicopter arrived on-scene but based on the critical nature of her injuries and treatment which included CPR it was decided to transport her by road in the EMS ambulance and the EMS Skymed helicopters advanced life support paramedic accompanied the ambulance to hospital while CPR continued with the advanced life support treatment applied in attempts to stabilize her.She has been transported to Riversdale hospital where she remains in a critical condition.Police have not released her name.
