MOSSEL BAY: Crewman casualty evacuated off Russian research ship:

Saturday 04th August 2012.Mossel Bay duty crew were called out to casualty evacuate a Russian sailor from the 142 meter Russian research ship Shanequinola Bay reporting that a 48 year old Russian crewman was ill and needed to be taken to hospital.Dawie Zwiegelaar, NSRI Mossel Bay station commander, said that at 04h00 on Saturday morning, 04th August, the ships agent had requested that NSRI be on alert while the ship sailed towards Mossel Bay from the direction of Port Elizabeth.Our volunteers launched Vodacom Rescuer and accompanied by an ER24 paramedic, rendezvoused with the vessel 2 nautical miles East of Mossel Bay harbour breakwater. The patient was in a stable condition. He was brought onto our sea rescue boat, brought to shore and transported to the Life Bay hospital. He was treated by hospital staff and discharged at 08h00 on Saturday morning into the care of the ships agent – King and Sons.
