Once a year in Port Elizabeth a Sea Sunday church service is held for all mariners, people and businesses associated with the Sea.Our crew were called twice during the service to assist with the Port Alfred call and, as luck would have it, we had just finished the sermon and were enjoying tea when a Code Red call came through for a vesselcapsized in the Swartkops river mouth. We we’re just about to launch Eikos Rescuer 4 when Coastal Rescue called to say the four men on board and been safely removed from thewater. We were then asked if we would assist in the recovery of the vessel suck in the surf line. Our rescue vehicle and 6 crew were dispatched to the scene were the vessel was pulled up onto the beach with the aid of our rescue vehicles winch and then pulled onto its trailer and off the beach. The scene was attended by coastal rescue, SAPS , sector policing , Guardmed ambulance. Special thanks to Gordon Smart who assisted with pulling the vehicle of the beach and collecting the trailer from TigerBay.
