Mantens assist home made boat

Dirk Manten, NSRI Vaal Dam duty coxswain, said: 'At 16h15 (Sunday, 24th June) NSRI Vaal Dam volunteers were activated following reports of a makeshift home made boat in difficulties off Kylie Bay, about a nautical mile South of Manten Marina on the Vaal Dam.'Our NSRI volunteer sea rescue duty crew launched our sea rescue craft Harvey's Fiberglass and on arrival on-scene found a small tri-maran, home-made, with a a small kayak in the centre using pontoons on each side, an outrigger and windsurf sails for wind power but suffering a broken rudder and the 'sailor', a man aged in his early 40's, unable to make any progress.'We took the small boat under tow and towed him safely ashore where he was reunited with his concerned friend and fellow 'boat builder' and he required no further assistance.'
