Monday 16th April 2012.NSRI Bakoven duty crew were called out at 13h59 on Monday 16 April following reports of a man gone missing while swimming off rocks in the surf at Bantry Bay, Cape Town.According to Bruce Davidson, NSRI Bakoven station commander, Bakoven’s volunteers launched SPIRIT OF ROTARY – TABLE BAY. METRO EMS and the SA Police Services also responded.On arrival a search commenced for a 32 year old man, who had gone swimming and disappeared in huge surf.He is reportedly from Kwazulu Natal and on contract at a Bantry Bay building site.His clothing and builders helmet were left on the shore but there was no sign of the man and eye-witnesses reported seeing him disappear in the surf.NSRI Table Bay launched their sea rescue craft ROTARY ENDEAVOR to join NSRI Bakoven and Metro Rescue on the scene and despite an extensive sea and shore search no sign of the man has been found and he is feared to have drowned.A police dive team will continue with an ongoing search operation.Police have not released the mans name pending his family being informed.Police have opened an inquest docket.
