JEFFREYS BAY TUESDAY 20th DECEMBER 2011.At 12h07 NSRI St Francis Bay volunteers were called out following a request for medical assistance from the Chokka fishing boat LAZARUS. A 50 year old Port Elizabeth crewman onboard had a suspected CVA (Cerebro Vascular Accident – a Stroke).They were far off Jeffreys Bay at the time and began heading in the direction of St Francis Bay.Our NSRI St Francis Bay volunteers were engaged at our annual fundraising golf day at the time and immediately dropped their clubs to respond to this emergency.SPIRIT OF ST FRANCIS II was launched and rendezvoused with the fishing boat 14 nautical miles off-shore of Jeffreys Bay.Our NSRI medics stabilized the patient onboard their boat, treating the patient for what appeared to be a CVA, and then transferred him to our sea rescue boat and brought him to a waiting ER24 ambulance. He has been transported to a local hospital in a stable condition.
